Welcome to STANFORD CONTEXT''03!

Context -03 will take place at Stanford University's Center for the Study of Language and Information (CSLI).  All meetings are planned for Cordura 100, located on the first floor of Cordura Hall.

Here's some basic information about getting to Stanford, getting around Stanford and its environs.

SFO TO CONFERENCE SHUTTLE:

Based on what we have heard from participants, we will have definitely scheduled only two pick ups at SFO. Look for people with red Stanford T-shirts in front of the International Terminal:

…      Saturday, June 21 at 6pm

…      Sunday, June 22 at 2p.m.

FINDING YOUR WAY AROUND STANFORD:

Below you will find a number of maps we hope will be helpful.  For more information, you may want to download a Stanford University Map.  There are a variety of maps available, including a  searchable map you can use in conjunction with the information given here.

When you arrive at Mirrielees Dorm, Saturday June 22:

…      Try to arrive before 8 p.m.  If you cannot, tell us in advance if possible. 

…      Until 8 p.m., someone from the Conference and someone from the Dorm will be there to help you:

…      If you booked a double room please specify with whom you want to stay

…      If you previously reserved extras nights ( not included in the package) please confirm it to them at your arrival

…      Your payment for the extras nights: you will arrange directly with the Mirrielees personnel, after your arrival. You will be able to pay with credit card and receive a receipt if needed. -

…      A $70 key deposit is required for each key that is issued

…      CHECK OUT June 25th ( the last day of the conference).  In order to not be rushed you can check out from 8am to1 p.m, and leave your luggage in the dorm.

 Parking

…      Parking permits will be available for purchase at the dorms. All parking is checked and if you park without a permit you will get a ticket. Appropriate parking areas will be shown on the map that we will distribute at the arrival of each participant on the 22nd.

 Food before and after conference

…      BREAKFAST is served every morning between 7 and 8.30 at the Manzanita Dining Hall.  From Mirrielees: cross campus drive, cross Escondido Road   The Dining Hall is behind Kimball Hall.

…      SATURDAY AND SUNDAY and EVENING MEALS.  There are many restaurants in Downtown Palo Alto, along University Avenue and side streets.  There are a few on California Avenue.  Here are some links for more information:

PRACTICAL INFORMATION FOR YOUR PRESENTATIONS

ORAL PRESENTATIONS:

…      There will be an overhead projector. 

…      There will be an LCD projector.

…      If possible, have your presentation on a Zip disk or CD that can be used in one of the computers (Mac and PC) that will be set up. 

…      Each presentation will limited to 25 minutes.  We believe the use of a Zip or CD will facilitate transitions. 

…      If you choose to use your own laptop, make sure to test the set up ahead of time.

POSTERS:

…      Dimension : NO LARGER FOUR FEET (125 cm) BY FOUR FEET.

…       When to Mount your Poster : during the coffee break time 4pm to 4.30pm Tuesday 24th.

…      Poster session start at 4.30pm Tuesday the 24th

…      Posters will remain up until the end of the conference

 EVENTS:

…       Monday, June 23rd, 6 p.m.  Orientation Walk.  Walking tour of Campus, resfreshments in pub garden, walk to downtown Palo Alto.

…      Tuesday June 24th, 6:30 p.m. Barbecue Dinner (included in the registration fees) in the CSLI patio .

…      The Conference will be held at Cordura Hall at CSLI

…      The Conference Dormitory is Mirrielees

…      The Campus Center comprises Tressider Union (where you can find food of various sorts, a barber shop, and a small Convenience Store two banks and many ATM's), the Bookstore and the Post Office plus a fountain and sometimes outdoor  merchants.

…      Downtown Palo Alto is north of Campus.  Palm Drive begins in front of the Quad, goes north through the Arboretum, crosses El Camino Real, and then turns into University Avenue, the main street of Palo Alto.  Palo Alto has many shops, scores of restaurants, and a cuple of bookstores.

…      California Street is a smaller commercial center, with a used bookstore, and several restaurants.

…      The Stanford Shopping Center is a rather joltingly upscale shopping center located on northeast corner of campus.  Restaurants, shops, banks, grocery stores, etc. etc.

…      The Town and Country Shopping Center is right across from El Camino Real from Campus.  Galvez Street (on Campus) turns into Embarcadero Road (in Palo Alto) at this point.
